2021 has already broken records! We’ve just experienced the most inspired celebration of World Lymphedema Day ever with not just one day dedicated to its celebration, but also with a seminar series occurring on each of the thirty-one days in the month.
The Northwest Lymphedema Center’s proud role was in connecting our local community to the leading national and international lymphedema organizations, and to hopefully amplifying and supporting the work of education and empowerment for lymphedema patients not just in the Pacific Northwest, but everywhere! Those who took part have overwhelmingly shared their enthusiasm with us over the creativity and substance of the programming.
Started as a global movement to increase awareness of lymphedema, World Lymphedema Day celebrated its 6th year on March 6, 2021. The National Lymphedema Network (NLN) and the Lymphatic Education & Research Network (LE&RN) offered programming in celebration of World Lymphedema Day.
LE&RN’s Virtual Global Celebration included the debut performance of the one-act play, “Let’s Talk Lymphoedema” hosted by spokesperson Kathy Bates.
The NLN, in conjunction with Lymphedema Awareness Month, delivered daily educational sessions in March intended for the patient community. Recordings of the programs are now available in their Video Library.
Video topics include:
- Choosing a Lymphedema Surgeon & Choosing a Lymphedema Therapist
- Demonstration of (Self) Manual Lymphatic Drainage for Lymphedema in One Arm and in Both Arms
- Lymphedema of the Chest and Breast
- Important Things to Know When you Have Lymphedema or a Lymphedema Risk
- And so much more!
Here are a few of the celebrations from around the world!
